Simkay Foods Ltd. has developed a model for training and supporting farmers on the adoption of improved, irrigation-based farming systems for increased yield quantity and quality, which effectively curbs the challenge of reduced rainfall quantities and the relatively lower yield quantities that result - the Vertical Sack Farming technique is currently the focus. So far, the company has achieved the following using its current operational model:

ƒ Provided quality training and implementation support services to over 10,000 rural smallholder farmers along the value chains of focus (Tomatoes and Potatoes), on the adoption of the Vertical Sack Farming Technique.

ƒ Improved annual yield quantities by 80-90% and achieve a 60-75% increase in yield quality among beneficiaries.

ƒ Provided access to a guaranteed market for the resulting farm yield, at very competitive prices, thereby increasing beneficiary incomes by at least 85%. ƒ Contributed to greater food availability levels nationwide, through hygienic processing and packaging activities.
